Limoges received an extra boost just before the middle of the 19th century with the arrival of the American porcelain dealer David Haviland. His descendants established numerous workshops producing fine tableware for the European and American markets. In 1907, Jean Haviland, son of Charles and grandson of David, founded a porcelain factory in Waldershof, Bavaria, under the name Johann Haviland. From 1907 to 1924, it produced mainly tableware. The factory was then taken over by Rosenthal.
