Luc Peire was born in Bruges. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bruges, the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Ghent and the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He was initially influenced by Permeke's expressionism, but developed an abstract and constructivist style after the Second World War. His unique style is characterised by vertical lines and a minimalist approach. Blostel paid homage to the primary colour blue. He also made Jostel (yellow) and Rostel (red).
