Lionel Vinche is a painter, draughtsman, watercolourist and designer of murals and theatre scenery. He trained at the Academy in Brussels, but is largely self-taught. At the age of 20, he joined a shipping company and started travelling (1956-57). He then worked as an actor in several theatres in Brussels (1959-62). In 1961 he began to paint. His works are populated with animals, plants, flowers and all kinds of imaginative figures. Almost all his works have a title that is written on the work itself.
