Guy Vandenbranden is an important Belgian post-war artist and constructivist. He was born in Brussels and studied at the free studio L'effort. The group La Jeune Peinture Belge introduced him to abstraction and in 1952 he started to create his own abstract compositions. In the beginning, Vasarely's influence is strong, but he soon develops his own style with a strong interest in colour combinations and perspective. He became a virtuoso in the geometric play of colour planes and spatial effects.

Belgian Constructivism is a fascinating movement that emerged in the early 20th century, influenced by the wider European Constructivist movement. It was characterised by a focus on geometric abstraction, the use of industrial materials and a desire to integrate art into everyday life.
